Catch began its journey as a booking platform, offering anglers detailed fishery information, a custom activity feed and an intuitive booking process to reserve spots at their favourite venues. Today, it has evolved into something much more ambitious: a comprehensive digital ecosystem committed to making the sport sustainable for future generations.
While maintaining its efficient venue management system for fishery owners, Catch’s mobile app has expanded to include a rich array of features designed to help anglers improve their skills effortlessly and enhance their connection to the sport.
This dual approach supports both the business and recreational sides of angling, ensuring the activity thrives in an environmentally responsible way.
SUPPORTING THE GO CATCH APP PRODUCT ROADMAP
Our comprehensive UX/UI enhancements for the Catch app focused on seamlessly integrating powerful new features while enhancing the overall user experience to help the Catch community raise their fishing game and fishing confidence. This strategic overhaul required careful consideration of user journeys, information architecture, and accessibility principles to support both novice and experienced anglers.
Beyond the fishing app itself, our work extended to creating a cohesive marketing ecosystem that would effectively communicate these innovations to both existing users and potential new customers.
Integrating New Features to Elevate Fishing Experiences
SESSION NOTES
We created an intuitive system allowing anglers to document their session notes during fishing trips, including pre-catch strategies, baiting methods, mixes, tactics and results in a centralised location. The Session Notes interface needed to balance comprehensive data capture with ease of use in often challenging outdoor environments. Through iterative testing, we developed a solution that uses smart defaults and contextual suggestions, minimising manual input while maximising knowledge preservation.
CATCH BLUEPRINTS
Blueprints allow anglers to record fishing sessions visually. The hotspot annotation feature presented unique challenges around precision and recall. Our solution enables anglers to drop markers on key areas of location photos with custom annotations, using a combination of gesture controls and visual cues that work effectively even in bright outdoor conditions. The system intelligently organises these annotations for easy retrieval during future sessions to help raise their fishing game.
AI-ASSISTED CATCH REPORTS
Integrating AI fish recognition and automated metadata extraction required careful consideration of data flow and user verification touchpoints. Our redesigned catch recording flow extracts location and weather data and moon phase automatically while allowing users to verify AI-suggested fish species. The interface communicates processing status clearly while minimising wait times and battery consumption.
REWARDS PROGRAMME
We designed a non-intrusive, valuable rewards system that surfaces relevant offers from leading fishing brands without disrupting the core fishing experience. The Catch rewards dashboard highlights exclusive rewards in the form of offers and special discounts, driving engagement without overwhelming users.
